Since 1989, ORS Impact works alongside renowned social impact leaders, supporting their work to accomplish their missions.
Sound Discipline contributes to an array of interrelated outcomes, including outcomes that promote cohesive community, race equity and student success. Rather than addressing educational systems with pre-set fixes, the Sound Discipline model and its implementation are intentionally flexible, responsive, and adaptive to the unique situations, contexts, and circumstances encountered in schools and community settings.
Sound Discipline staff are committed to positioning the model as an evidence-based program and the evaluation approach designed by ORS Impact supports this intent. The evaluation strives to balance rigor and adaptation, as the Sound Discipline model continues to be in an active stage of development. ORS Impact has partnered closely with the Sound Discipline team to uncover and apply learnings and adjust evaluation questions and methods to ensure that measurement efforts continue to offer maximum utility and value. Sound Discipline data collection includes surveys and focus groups with educators, interviews with school leaders and Sound Discipline staff, and observations. In addition, the evaluation includes review of school data regarding discipline referrals, school climate and student academics.
ORS Impact regularly facilitates opportunities for reflection on data and sense-making. Components of the Sound Discipline model have been refined and strengthened based on evaluation findings and associated learnings. Beyond tracking outcomes, evaluation has focused on clearly articulating the model’s core inputs and guiding principles – i.e. the beliefs, competencies and conditions – that drive faithful and effective implementation in dynamic educational settings. Clarity about the principles that drive successful implementation has made it possible to better address and assess the factors that enhance or detract from the model’s effectiveness.
